Increase inclusion, create opportunities

Leveraging our scale and position, we aim to increase the diversity of our workforce and create opportunities for marginalised groups to enter and thrive in the industries we work across. We are committed to sustaining our focus on inclusion and to delivering on this ambition.

Improving equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)

As part of our current company strategy, we aim to cultivate an inclusive culture in Ramboll by recognising the unique geographical and cultural contexts in which we operate. Our approach to building an inclusive culture is based on aspirational targets. How we work with EDI

  • :

Build an organisation of inclusion and belonging and, through that, create a workplace that reflects Ramboll’s commitment to society.

  • :

Achieve a more balanced organisation with a strong focus on gender representation. Our goal for gender representation is to achieve approximately 40% women across our workforce by the end of our current strategy period.

  • :

Embed a strong focus on diversity and equity in our people processes to ensure that we mitigate and challenge bias when making decisions.

Actions supporting our EDI aspirational targets

An inclusive workplace

We provide ongoing EDI education to all Ramboll employees and guide our leaders at all levels to help them understand how to work with EDI and be role models. We believe that listening to the experiences, concerns, and ideas of our employees is core to building a culture of inclusion that works for all. This is why we are work closely with three global employee reference groups. These groups help us amplify conversations about core EDI topics and deepen our organisational understanding of our employees’ diverse experiences.

Improving gender representation

:

By the end of our current strategy period, we aim to have a balance of 40% women across Ramboll. In 2023, the gender distribution across the total workforce was 37% women, 63% men, and less than 1% non-binary. Across top management, which includes the Group Executive Board, the Group leadership Team, and heads of Global Functions, the gender distribution was 32% women and 68% men.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) offer a vital framework for promoting progress and achieving social, economic, and environmental equity worldwide. Central to this vision is UNSDG 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” At Ramboll, we are deeply committed to advancing this goal. Every woman and girl deserves equal rights, opportunities, and the freedom to live without violence or discrimination. By embracing our role as changemakers, we aspire to contribute meaningfully to solutions that drive empowerment and create lasting, positive change.

We also recognise that diversity extends far beyond just gender. Our commitment to EDI is based on a deep respect for the multifaceted identities of our employees, encompassing race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, diverse abilities, and much more. While we focus on gender representation globally due to its universal applicability, we understand that the importance of other diversity dimensions can vary greatly depending on local cultural and social contexts. Our regional teams are empowered to measure and focus on the diversity dimensions most relevant to their specific locations and social settings, allowing for a more nuanced and context-sensitive approach to EDI.

Actions to meet gender targets

Women in STEM

Women continue to be underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professions. To play a role in mitigating structural and cultural barriers, we offer an engineering mentorship programme and have STEM school partnerships in India, we run safety and inclusion workshops in the UK which have equipped leaders with tools like a menopause guide, and we participate in events like Girls’ Day in Science and the Science Cup in Denmark. We also partner with networks like The Fest Hub, IntoUniversity, the HunterWiSE program, and the US National Society of Black Engineers.
